How to know where you will be in 5 years: From Daniel Neilson Brown

How to know where you will be in 5 years...
From Daniel Neilson Brown
Have you given much thought to where you
might be in five years?

I can tell you where you'll be! In five
years you'll be the sum total of the books
you've read, the people you've associated
with, and everything you've allowed into
your mind to influence you.

We have to be very careful what we subject
ourselves to. Everything has an influence.

Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep your heart with
all diligence for out of it flow the issues
of life."

We have a responsibility to control our
minds, which is a rather simple concept
when we consider that our thoughts are
only generated by two things:

...that which we create ourselves, and our
responses to what is happening around us.
Both are in our direct control.

Do you realize what you think about and
respond to is likely to be attracted to you?
Remember, Jesus said in Matthew 9:29,
"According to your faith, so be it unto
you!"

Also, in Proverbs 23:7, we're told, "As a
man thinks in his heart, so is he!"

Think for a minute about those things in
your life that you lack, or the same things
that continually seem to plague you. What do
you think about or respond to regularly that
may be contributing to it?

Everything we allow into our minds will have
an influence.

For example, if a woman is lacking romance
in her life, she may seek romance in a
fantasy, such as in a romance novel? What
this may do is reinforce her belief that
there is no romance in her real world.

If a man finds himself addicted to
pornography, his sexual expectations will
become unrealistic. The repercussions for
people who have this addiction can be
catastrophic, especially for his or her
marriage and entire family.

If a person watches horror movies, he or
she will be left with a sense of fear, and
we're told in Scripture over and over again
to "fear not!"

Besides, scary movies have a way of
desensitizing us to evil.

In Ephesians 6:10,11, Paul tells us to be
strong in the Lord that we may be able to
stand against the wiles of the devil.
We certainly cannot stand against the
devil's schemes if we allow horror films to
desensitize us.

I have a friend who's really into a
particular soap opera. He says it doesn't
affect him emotionally, but I disagree.

I know this show well, for I was addicted to
it myself! After watching it every day for
about 6 years, I was usually left in a
paralyzed state of mind.

My mood was so somber afterward that
I just didn't really feel like doing much.

Again, in five years you will be the sum
total of the books you've read, the people
you've associated with, and everything
you've allowed into your mind up to that
point.

If what you're allowing into your mind on a
regular basis is not in line with your five
year goals, don't fool yourself into
thinking that somehow in five years you're
going to be living your dream!

What you just read comes from Chapter 1
of my eBook/Audio Book,
"5 Biblical Keys to Changing Your Life"
I wanted to share that with you because it's
vitally important to be careful what you think
about and respond to!
